Mr Tucker's Ladies Outfitters

As told by Mrs J Staples.

"I remember working in Mr Tucker's ladies outfitters shop in North Street. It was a very large busy shop, especially in the summer and at January sales times and at Christmas with all the excitement of decorating the store.

There was a large flat above the shop, which was used for staff rooms at this time. Mr Tucker also owned Susan's the corsetry shop in Hockliffe Street where my aunt used to work. In those days the bus stop was outside the shop in North Street, so quite a lot of ladies could look in the windows, and Susan's shop was situated on the cross roads, by the traffic lights, also handy for looking in the windows while the bus was stationary.

Opposite Mr Tuckers shop was Buckmasters coach garage, where people used to wait to catch the coaches for seaside outings, theatre trips etc. (where Stirling Discount is now)."
